Fri Jan 27th, 2012 at 01:58:03 PM: warrior2 said this about Keep Your Doors Locked :
Just to follow up on previous post. Did talk to police today and they said they would inform the officer on this beat and watch the general area of house. I have never had someone ring the bell and try and open the door . There were no flyers left and as fast as we got to the door, no one was in site. Kids do ring bells and run, but this person was trying to open the door too. They were aggressive enough in trying to open the door that all of us in the living room were startled. Keep Your doors locked .

Thu Jan 26th, 2012 at 07:36:05 PM: warrior2 said this about keep your doors locked at all times:
Tonight about 1- 1.5 hours ago the doorbell rang and someone attempted to open door. We went to door immediately and no one was there but there was set of wet footprints ( size of child or small adult) by our door. We could see no one. I just called the dispatch to inform them but did not speak to an officer. Dispatch said I should have called earlier, but to let the neighbors know I am posting here. I just wanted to alert neighbors to KEEP YOUR FRONT DOOR LOCKED AT ALL TIMES. Not sure if this is kids or what, but this person tried to open our door. If it had not been locked this person might have just walked in.

found this story on Dallas Morning News online. Haven't heard anything hitting here in Carrollton yet but let's stay safe: 01/14/2012 Police are warning North Texans to beware of burglars posing as city workers or general contractors. Since May, at least nine homeowners have been victimized in Fort Worth, Arlington, and Farmers Branch. In all of the cases, the burglars chose random neighborhoods with single-family homes and distracted the residents by luring them outside while at least one burglar would go through the house looking for things to steal. "At this time, they are targeting the elderly, but I'm sure that eventually, they will start to target other citizens of this city," Fort Worth Officer Sharron Neal said. Fort Worth homeowner Darrell Sweeden, 77, said he fell for the distraction ploy when three men came to his home claiming to be trimming trees for his neighbor. But his neighbor hadn't hired anyone to cut down the trees. "They seemed like they knew exactly what they were talking about," said Sweeden. The three men were so convincing, Sweeden's wife let them into their home. Sweeden went to the back door in his wheelchair so one man could show him the trees he said he was going to cut down for Sweeden's neighbor along the fence between their homes. After the men left, Sweeden realized he was missing a lock box with the deed to his house and other important documents. "After it was all over, and I realized what they'd done, it really struck me then," said Sweeden. Sweeden says he has his guard up now. "Nobody gets in this house unless I know who they are," he said. Police say the most common things stolen are jewelry, watches, and money and that the burglars use cellphones to discreetly communicate with each other while committing the crime. Police say in some cases, the burglars were a man and a woman and that most of incidents happened between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. on a weekday. The victims told police the burglars were driving a white, four-door Chevrolet Avalanche pickup with black accents.

Sat Sep 10th, 2011 at 04:59:24 PM: warrior2 said this about Crime Alert and 2 dogs loose:
Crime alert and Loose dogs alert One of our vehicles has been scratched and the other had the vehicles logo torn off. This was found today, Saturday. We will file a police report Monday. Also, Thursday 2 dogs were in our back yard. They were a black poodle and a black medium size dog. We ran them out of the yard and later saw them running loose on Denton Drive south bound. When we returned home that night from dinner we found our fishpond had been disturbed. 4 Coys ( fish) had been gutted and the other 6 were missing. The ornaments around the pond had been disturbed and the pump was no longer working. We suspect the dogs did this. We called Animal control to report this. We never heard back from them so I have no idea if they found the dogs. They did about $100 damage to our fish pond. The dogs seem friendly so we thought they might be someone's pets.

CRIME ALERT!!!!!! Last night or early this morning a Chevy Avalanche in the 1900 block of Cottonwood was burglarized and the theives got away with it's tailgate. From another neighbor's security camera it showed a Chevy Avalanche with 2 white males stealing the other Avalanche's tailgate. Also a follow up to the burglary on August 3rd a neighbor's security camera captured 3 black males in a white Chrysler carrying off the stolen goods from the house on W. Alan. Both videos are being studied by Police. Meanwhile we all need to be vigilent and keep an eye out for anything that looks suspicious!

Wed Aug 3rd, 2011 at 06:29:25 PM: Martha said this about Conserving electricity:
The Electricity Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) is continuing to ask consumers to conserve electricity where they can. There are some simple adjustments that can make a big difference: adjust your thermostat to 78oF, turn off lights when they’re not being used and close your blinds and drapes to block direct sunlight. Let's all do our part to conserve -- none of us want rolling black outs!!!

The message I just posted is a copy of an email I received back from the city about my concerns of the high noise levels from DART. I urge others who also have concerns to do the same simple email. The more people the city and DART hear from in our area the better. I take issue with DART's response as the high noise levels have been consistent from the beginning. We will follow up with DART and the city about this. Thanks, Cindy

Fri Apr 1st, 2011 at 11:09:23 AM: Cindy said this about Loud DART Rail Noise:
Thank you for contacting the city with your concerns. I went out to your property yesterday and took sound measurements at the southwest corner of your property. The highest measurement was 66.2 db. City code allows for sound levels of 65db during the day and 58db at night. However, the trains are regulated by federal law and this supersedes any ordinance the city has in place. Please read the following response from DART regarding noise issues: "DART has received a similar complaint recently near downtown Carrollton regarding noise from a residence some distance away from the line. This issue was associated "flat" wheel spots on the trains which are contributing to temporarily higher noise levels. DART is currently working to address these "flat" spots through a combination of wheel truing and vehicle software patches so we anticipate noise reductions in the future. It may be that residents in the area are reacting to this noise issue. We hope to have most of this resolved within the next 60-90 days. If the issue continues or the resident would like to discuss specific times when increased noise is most readily apparent, please have the resident contact Lawrence Meshack with Community Affairs at jmeshack@dart.org or 214-749-2590 and we can determine what next steps might be most appropriate." If you have any further concerns you may contact me at cynthia.arias@cityofcarrollton.com or at 972-466-3059. Sincerely, Cynthia Arias Pollution Control Coordinator Environmental Services City of Carrollton 972-466-3059

Has the increased noise from the elevated DART trains bothered you? If so send and email to the City of Carrollton, Environmental Services Dept and ask them to come make noise readings @ your house. We did and there is an increase in noise, the information is being forwarded to DART through proper channels. We were told NO ONE besides us has made anything known to the City about the increased noise. If we don't let anyone know nothing will be done. Thank you.

They generally stay in my backyard for their outing. If they continue to be under my porch I will have to set a trap for them . I hate to do that but if it becomes necessary I will.

Another girl said he was in her backyard to and she has a big dog that could have hurt the little dog. And now today it was taking a poo in my yard. I pick up my dogs poo but I do not think I should have to pick up others! I think I'm just going to start calling animal control on the 3 dogs that have been running the neighborhood all the time so if your dog is one of them, FIX YOUR FENCE or tie your dog up. The fine the city is going to charge for having to pick up the dog is much more then buying a chain to tie the dog up too. I do NOT want to call animal control on these dogs but I am being left with no choice.

Generally you can trim the part of the tree that is on your property ( if they refuse to trim their tree themselves) but you should ask permission first.

Are you sick of shaking your head helplessly at the cars parked in yards, abandoned construction projects and other problems in our neighborhood? Well, now you can tell Carrollton's public works department all about it using a new Problem Tracker map, set up by the Dallas Morning News' web crew and hosted by the company SeeClickFix. Just click on the interactive map and register your complaint (add photographic evidence, if you like), or add your vote to correct an already identified problem. Each request automatically sends an e-mail to the city.

I'm looking to move to a neighborhood with smaller homes and since I walk our border collie mix ("Lady") twice a day anyway, I decided to walk her through your neighborhood. Just wanted to say thanks to them for the warm greeting and hats off to them for caring enough about their neighbors to check out who was walking around.

That's a good point Martha just made. If you suspect criminal activity contact the Carrollton Police if it's an emergency call 911 otherwise 972-466-3333 and give them as much detailed information that you can, and you can remain annonymous if you wish. These are the actions that will make a difference in stopping criminal activity. The Police are strongly supporting our efforts and the Officers that cover our neighborhood have personally expressed their desire to catch the people responsible for these crimes. You can even personally discuss your concerns when you see them in our neighborhood making their rounds. Stop and wave and get to know them and thank them for their hard work.

Another poster made mention of the frequent power outages. I lost my computer last year when the line went down(x2) on Keneipp. I filed a complaint at the state level and got told that they did not feel the outages were frequent- sorry you lost your computer. I think what has happened is the power goes out so often we don't always make it public record, we are just so used to it. I suggest that to provide a solid record of frequent outages that these are reported every time. If I had had a petition it may have helped.

I have seen this same dogs loose at dusk in the keneipp alley, no owners or leashes. Animal control has been aware for a year now.Just FYI these are not the only dogs seen loose at dawn or dusk. Sun Apr 12th, 2009 at 11:57:53 PM: warior2 said this about Re: fleas/ticks etc:
We had a flea infestation once and had to pull up carpets & area rugs. The pest control said the key to getting rid of them is to spray everything at the same time and then before 3 weeks go by, spray again. Other things that helped are diatomaceous earth. We put in under the house, in the house and in the yard . There are 3 kinds .type 1 is safe for pets ( in fact is use to worm animals), type 2 has pyrethrin added, and animal activists say it will kill cats ( but not dogs) and type 3 kills fire ants. If you could get some of this in your home and ask your neighbors for permission to dust the yard with it it could go a long way to killing those fleas and ticks. The good news is it is NOT all that expensive . works on roach's, spiders etc. Holding a good thought for Harley.

I am so sorry to hear about the flea problem you're having. I live at the corner of W. You should even be able to work out a discount price with the Pest Control company for a one-stop, multiple locations application. A couple of rounds of this and staying on top of bathing our 2 dogs we had at the time, and we overcame the problem. Good Luck, hope Harley and you are both better soon.

Sat Apr 4th, 2009 at 05:10:44 PM: Harley's Mom said this about Fleas:
I moved into a house at the north end of Keneipp almost 6 months ago. The day I moved in my dogs were in the backyard for about 30 minutes and when I checked on them they were covered in more fleas than I have ever seen in my life. My big dog Harley had shaken her head so hard because of them that she broke cartilage and a major blood vessel in her ear and had to have surgery! It was really really bad. When I saw they had fleas on them I turned her over to look at her tummy and there were so many on her that you couldn't see skin! In the 6 months I have been here I have had the professionals out to spray once a month (inside and out). On top of that I have sprayed with a non professional product every other weekend. Upon the vets suggestion I have also been putting the flea drops on their necks every 3 weeks instead of the prescribed 4 weeks. Doctor said we can't decrease the time between treatments any more than that. We also take all linens and clothing to the laundry every spray day and put them through the really hot driers. We are doing everything we are supposed to. The pest professional says that we should have gotten rid of them all by now. We shouldn't be having an explosion of them every 3 weeks or so. The only way this could be happening is if the yards all around me and the alley are severely infested. The minute the poisons on my yard get just a little weak they invade again. Has anyone else been having a problem? Does anyone know if the city will help if I can prove that the area is infested? If this were just an inconveniance I would just put up with it but it is a MAJOR problem for my household. My dog Harley and I are both so allergic to fleas that it sends us to the doctor every time the fleas invade our yard. My medical bills because of this have exceeded $1500 ... ugh... so far.

What a bad thing to happen to such a nice family. Please take the time to look out for your neighbors as well as your home. Thu Dec 11th, 2008 at 12:33:22 PM: Merc said this about Nuclear Attack !!!Good info to remember!:
Nuclear Attack!! Don't give up! It is survivable. Remember, you can survive almost any disaster, even a nuclear attack! It is survivable! Basically, if you've survived the initial blast, stay indoors for at least 48 hours and take potassium iodine tablets. When you finally come out, avoid the dust. Wash everything down with water. Using a respirator will greatly increase your survival rate. More details are available through these links. POTASSIUM IODIDE , WHAT IS IT? IOSAT: Potassium Iodide Tablets, USP 130 mg. per tablet. 14 tablets per package. NDC: 51803-001-01 IOSAT? is the first "Radiation Protective" or Thyroid Blocking" agent to be sold directly to the general public. Its active ingredient, 130 mg. of potassium iodide (KI), gives virtually complete protection from the most feared consequence of a nuclear accident - a meltdown and release of radioactive iodine into the environment. Radioactive iodine (primarily I-131) is a waste product of nuclear fission produced in reactors and bombs. Its potential impact on human health is staggering, and it could affect more people (perhaps far more people) than all other radioactive sources combined. US Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) reports indicate that a major release could injure hundreds of thousands of people, and many believe that the government is underestimating the danger. What makes I-131 so dangerous is that the body can not distinguish it from ordinary iodine. As a result, if it is accidentally swallowed (in contaminated food or water), or inhaled (it can remain in the atmosphere for days), it will be absorbed into the thyroid gland and will remain there long enough to slowly poison its victim. It can take 20 to 30 years, but eventually it can lead to cancer, thyroid damage, growth and birth defects, or death. Children, whose thyroids are especially active, are extremely susceptible to it. But IOSAT protects against radioactive iodine by preventing its absorption by the thyroid gland. IOSAT saturates (blocks) the thyroid with stable iodine, "filling it to capacity". Once filled, the gland "turns off" its absorption mechanism, and it will remain off long enough for the radioactive iodine to disappear naturally. This method of protection is extremely safe and effective, and up to 99% of all radiation induced thyroid damage can be avoided by the use of IOSAT. The value of potassium iodide was demonstrated following the Chernobyl nuclear accident, where authorities began mass distribution (millions of doses) of KI just hours after the explosion. In the years following the accident in areas where people received the drug, the incidence of thyroid cancer has not increased. But where KI was not distributed, previously rare forms of juvenile thyroid cancer have begun appearing at epidemic rates, with over 1200 known cases by 1996. But the radiation did not stop at the Soviet border. In Poland, 300 miles away, authorities watched as radioactive iodine levels began climbing. Soon, authorities felt they had no choice, and doctors ordered a protective dose for every child in the country. These efforts proved successful, and there has been no increase in thyroid cancer in Poland due to Chernobyl. Similar preventative measures took place in other areas throughout Europe, with similar success. These programs succeeded because most European countries had long stockpiled KI for emergency use in the event of a nuclear accident or war. Planners, therefore, had access to the drug (which should be taken prior to exposure for maximum effectiveness) when it was needed. Unfortunately, similar mass stockpiles are not kept in the United States. WARNING: POTASSIUM IODIDE SHOULD NOT BE USED BY PEOPLE ALLERGIC TO IODIDE Use only as directed by state or local public health authorities in the event of a radiation emergency. Store at room temperature. Keep package dry and foil packets intact. In the event of a radiation emergency, follow all instructions of state or local public health authorities, including evacuation if ordered. IOSAT is sold in packages of 14 tablets, each tablet containing 130 mg. of potassium iodide, USP. Each package provide protection for one adult from radioactive iodine in a severe radiation emergency. DOSAGE: ADULTS AND CHILDREN ONE YEAR OF AGE OR OLDER: Take one KI tablet per day for up to 14 days, as instructed by public health authorities. Crush for small children. BABIES UNDER ONE YEAR: One-half tablet once per day. Crush first. Potassium Iodide Updated Monday.December,1 2008 By Cris M Pinneke.

David, that was me. Good lookin out, I thought everyone on this board new me. I do patrols when I can between my online classwork. I drive a BLACK FORD F150 SUPERCREW WITH A COP STYLE RAM GRILLE GUARD and I am a big mean bouncer looking guy with pierced ears. I am harmless unless you are up to no good LOL. Anyways I don't even know my plates, but I am a hard person to miss. I keep the spotlight to look down the alleys a bit easier than driving down them all the time. Saturday night there was someone driving in the alley lights out, and when were spotted, they left. So that everyone knows make sure you tell your neighbors I am OK. I just don't have the money to get signs right now, and the magnetic ones scratch your clearcoat up. I try not to shine the spotlight in houses only in between and at hours BEFORE bedtime (7-8ish) just in case someone is there up to something. THE LAST HOUSE THAT WAS BROKEN INTO, THEY GOT THROUGH A SIDE WINDOW. So, if this bothers anyone just let me know on here. I am usually out during the day about 2 times and at night at least once, or more if something suspicious is going on. But anytime you see something suspicious, CALL IT IN ANYWAY, IF IT'S SOMEONE DOING GOOD, THE COPS RUN THEIR LICENSE, AND LET THEM GO IN UNDER 60 SECONDS. I know because I got pulled over the other day, and I didn't mind, someone called in on me, who didn't know me and that's exactly what we should be doing, So good thing is this Beats Officers have my plates on file and know who I am, so please next time you question anything (unless it's me of course lol) CALL IT IN!

Hi everyone, I just wanted to ask if it was a warrior driving around this Saturday evening (11/01) in a beige/brown pickup truck shining a spotlight on houses and cars? Unfortunately it was dark and I could not see the license plate -- shortly after passing our home they turned down an alley off of Donald. While the behaviour was odd, it did not seem overly suspicious, as whoever it was seemed focused on locating someone or perhaps their pet. I planned to simply call the police the next time I saw them but thought I'd check with y'all first in case it was warrior crime prevention activity.

If anyone else is interested in taking this further, I think there are some Whitlock Warriors who would be willing to sign petitions or pitch in for the sake of having a Park, green space, gardens etc., in our neighborhood. Martha and I discussed this and she asked a friend of ours who is the Director of "Keep Carrollton Beautiful" and this is the advise she gave,"... I would think you would have to make a proposal to the Parks Board. You could email Scott Whitaker , he's really nice and would answer your question." Please let Minh know if you have any ideas or would like to join in and work on this community project.

The property at the corner of Donald and Random adjacent to the Armenian church is up for sale! This large lot covers about 3/4 acres on level ground. Wouldn't it be terrific if we can turn it into a neighborhood park and gardens? Perhaps the city would be interested in purchasing the land, which is up for sale by the daughters of the long time owners after their passing. There may be an opportunity to work out an arrangement with the sellers to name the park after their parents. This would be a win-win for everyone, and gives the neighborhood children a place to play other than in the streets. Let's move quickly before a developer buys the place.

To Carrollton Resident, first glad to see you now can post your messages, your thoughts and opinions are welcomed. I could easily validate your feelings of sometimes people misinterpret the simplest of things to conclude you are a racist. Example - if I said that black comedian I saw in a such and such movie, someone might retort why did you have to mention he's black? Dang, I was just trying to describe the fellow that I might not know his name. I would agree with "Confused Carrolltonian" over all, on the attitudes and demeanor of today?s youth, though only you know what the intensity of the "glaring" was. By all means, DO NOT hesitate to call the police and our crime watch group on someone running by your kitchen window. Thank ya'll for your thoughtful posts
Fri Oct 24th, 2008 at 07:56:32 PM: Confused Carrolltonian said this about CPD issues:
I guess I just don't think someone looking at you funny is all that suspicious. Teenage/young adult guys can be a pretty petulant bunch and I know the guys that stock the shelves at Albertson's sort of look everyone funny and grunt at you when you walk by. I don't think I'd call the cops on them. I've called the dispatchers before and they have been short with me but I chalk it up to the fact that they also answer the 911 calls and probably are trying to keep the lines clear. I really hope that you will feel comfortable calling the dispatchers because someone RUNNING on your property is serious (not to mention creepy) and I'd definitely call 911, quick!
Thu Oct 23rd, 2008 at 11:21:13 PM: Carrollton Resident said this about Problem with Police Dispatch:
I am having problem posting. (not too tech savy) . anyway, I wanted ot tell you a couple tof things. First, I don't know how others feel about our police dept., but I have not been treated very politely when I have called to report suspicious activity. Case in point. I went to vote. I noted a Indian or middle Eastern man 18-24 in front of library at Josey ranch. He watched me and even glared at me. I noted a car drive up, a small, beat up, old turquoise car that had 2 people in it. He got in and they left quickly. I called the police to report suspicious activity and they said they saw nothing suspicious about that and basically tried to paint me as a racist. I told them that if citizens are integrated for reporting what they perceive to be suspicious activity, then they will not. I know I won't again. also I wanted to tell the neighbors that last night around 9pm I had the windows open and was at my computer. I got up and heard the sound of someone running. right outside my kitchen window and near my side door. I locked my doors and windows. I would have called the police but due to the disrespectful way i was treated the day before - i did not. BTW, the police ask for your number and name when you call b/ c they create a profile on you. If you identify anyone by race, they will paint you a racist.

The break in at 1203 W. Alan is exactly like the other houses previously robbed; within 100 yards of each other: 2 homes on W. Alan, 1 on the corner of Mary, 1 on the corner of Cottonwood and 1 on W. Russell, probably all by the same person(s). Also the Police suspect these thieves live very close by and watch and know when the houses in our neighborhood are un-occupied. 1203 W. Alan, the theives entered through a bedroom window after removing a window unit AC. They mainly stole things from the teenager's room (XBOX, flat-screen computer, some cash, and jewelry from the granmother. This makes you think it could very well be teenagers doing these break ins. Everyone be on alert and when you see anything that looks odd or suspicious call the Police immediately, if you don't make the call, then crimes can keep happening! It takes all of us watching over each other's homes, the Police are not able to be here all the time.

The following is an email I received on an update on Deceptive Tree Trimmer: "I just wanted to follow up on the Rios Landscaping and Tree service incident. Since then I have received two (2) calls from him , one regarding the check cashing place he took the check to , the other was Friday the 19 . He called and offered to take $50 off to cut our tree. I asked if this was Chris Rios who had cut our tree for $150 and with whose work we had not been satisfied. He stumbled around and said " no this is Chris Rio" He then said ' I must have called the wrong number" I did not stop payment on the check b/c I thought the man may not have had food or gas. I felt sorry for him. I talked with the police and the officer filed a report on this - so a paper trail is started. He is driving an old car that is the color of cement and the license plate is a temporary-- one that says D9 and has written in his name "Chris Rios" . He is anywhere from late 20's to late 30's . He is either Hispanic or mixed Caucasian. He's about 5'7-8 and slim build. Previous to this incident he had topped a tree for us and we had no problems with him , in fact my husband had commented that he was a "hard worker"."

Our neighbor's tree is hanging over our garage and yard and he told my husband he would trim the tree limbs off the garage for $150.00 . He came today and trimmed half the tree off the yard and then told my husband ' that is the $ 150.00 if you want the other half you will need to pay another $150.00". He told ;my husband he misunderstood. My husband told him that he didn't communicate what he was doing well as he'd never have agreed to have half of it cut . Senior citizens should beware. I just wanted to alert all that they use deceptive practices and took advantage of us. We hired him in good faith. We did pay him the $150.00. Another reason for everyone to stay vigilant: There were a couple of people 1 black male & 1 white female in a black Honda Prelude who knocked on a neighbor's door @ 1839 Cottonwood this morning around 10:00 AM. The resident did not answer the door since she didn't recognize the girl @ the door (evidently the man stayed in the car) after a few minutes the girl came back and knocked on the door again, this time the resident was in the garage and hit the automatic door opener to get a better look and the girl from the Honda was standing right in front of the garage and was surprised by the door opening and took off with the guy in the Honda. The Police were called but the Honda was long gone. So if you see a dark black Honda Prelude with a black male and white female in the neighborhood try and get the license plate number and call the Police and do not answer the door if you don't know who it is. Who knows what these two individuals were up to, but it certainly appears they were checking to see if anyone was home to break in or whatever, especially since they took off the second the garage door came open and saw that someone was home.....

Ok, if you can't afford expensive perimeter sensors and stuff visit www.shomer-tec.com. You can get a simple 25.00 intrusion "booby trap" it is merely a trip wire based solution you can set up at night or when you leave, if someone triggers it (so put it like 2 or 3 feet in from your gates so it is OBVIOUS they are trespassing. Anyways it sets off a 12 gauge blank that not only draws attention but will scare the crap out of an intruder. You can also purchase a kerambit you keep on your keychain when on walks, or a stinger keychain, both hard plastic handheld devices that are used for striking an attacker in the face. THEY HURT. Leave light on in your front room at night or when you leave, make sure your house is well lit, invest in motion sensor flood lights...IT HELPS I know some people think this next tip isn't effective, but I have done research into neighborhoods that have done this, and Crime is reduced considerably and in worst case scenario, perps are fingered because they are on tape. But look into getting your own home video surveillance, especially one that can stream over the internet. Set them up around the perimeter of your house front door back door alley and sidewalk. They have become very affordable to DIY, and are weatherproof, have infrared for night vision, and can activate with significant motion (bypasses for small animals etc..) If we could as a neighborhood or block by block pool funds together and get a sophisticated system where anyone of us could log on and visually "patrol" the peripheral..then we could be one step ahead of anyone bringing trouble. More to come...

Thanks to all of you for your inputs. I can see our neighborhood is saying enough of this noise, we are going to keep this place safe and a nice place to live. Well, we are getting enough messages and topics, prompting me to add another optional field to use if you wish to identify the thread/topic/subject your comment pertains to. As you can see this mechanism is a LIFO "last in first out".. with that if you wanted to talk different ideas, well you had to search back and find it somtimes deep within the message. I'm gonna use it here, with topic "the MessageLog mechanism", I think you'll get the idea, I took the liberty of adding to the existing messages a few topics, so we get the idea right away. Remember, this is an optional field for the readers to see in a jiffy the thread/topic/subject. You may create a new topic, and/or add comments to an existing one, or none at all. If you use it, you don't need to type exactly the existing topic phrase, just let others know what you are addressing.
On Sat Sep 6 19:48:56 2008 James - ElevenNine Media said this about HOME SECURITY:
I think as each individual is comfortable, you should look at investing in a handgun or rifle, and learn to use it properly and effectively. There is no law against keeping a registered gun in your home for protection or threats. In doing that we know we always have a last resort in case of an intrustion. Also we need to look at the legality (don't see why it should be a problem) of posting neighborhood watch signs at each entry to our sector from main roads, that read "Criminals: Our residents are locked and loaded, and will not tolerate crime." Something to that effect. In the meantime we all should know each others vehicles, what our family or household members look like, plate numbers etc, NOT to be SNOOPING but to WATCH OUT for things or people that are out of place, sure you may have family visit or friends, and im sure it would be obvious if they were friendlies or not, but that way when we see a suspicious car park in front of your house, we can call you and say "hey just wanted you know know...etc do you know this person out front?" So noone gets caught off guard. I will be posting some tips for safeguarding your house and some supply websites too for easy and cheap security.

Hello neighbors. I think this WW is great. Glad to be informed of what is going on. I'm so glad the association had contact info on Mrs. Garrison. That is what scares me about people living alone, who to call. a few years ago, a young man came to my door, selling stuff out of a rubbermaid container. I don't answer my door. When someone comes to the door, I talk thru the door. After this guy did his sales pitch, I said no thanks, and walked away. he called out to me that he needed to go to the bathroom. I told him I didn't know him, and was not letting him in my house. He left, went to a few houses, and came back. knocked on the door, and said he had to go really bad. I told him to go home and use his own RR. He said he lived in oak Cliff. I told him bye. later, my neighbor across the street told me her husband had answered this door when this kid came around, and the boy never asked her husband to use the RR at all. he was just trying to get into my house. I'm glad I followed my instincts. I have been walking the neighborhood lately in the evenings with my 2 white dogs. hope to meet some of you soon.

This afternoon around 2:00 PM, Mrs. Janice Garrison (81 years old, lives alone) @ 1818 Cottonwood was assaulted in her home, beat up and some cash and her car were stolen. Her next door neighbor @ 1816 Cottonwood, helped lead the police to the bad guys (which one of them actually mowed Mrs. Garrison's yard and a few other neighbor's yards). A single Hispanic (18 yold) guy knocked on her door saying his car broke down around the corner could he use her phone....she handed him the phone and he pushed through her door and robbed and beat her with 2 other bad guys coming in later. The 1st guy tied her up and covered her head with a towel and she did not see the other guys who also beat her. She is okay now, released from the hospital no broken bones, but black & blue eyes, nose and wrists. Before we brought her home from the hospital, the Police had already arrested the Lawn Boy and were obtaining warrants for the other 2 bad guys. They are all being charged with multiple felonies (1 lived in Carrollton but, the other 2 from Farmers Branch). Thank goodness her next door neighbor happened to come home this afternoon & then recognize something suspicious, rescue her and called the police. The Whitlock Warriors also helped: I have her emergency contact information and was able to contact her daughter and also the Police were able to notify me to come to the hospital through my contact information. Heads up everyone the Family Data Sheet information does come in handy! Lesson Learned: Don't answer the door if you do not know the person. Stay safe and I'm so glad this story had a somewhat-happy ending....the good guys caught the bad guys. The End.

I just posted the alert about todays robbery... This sickens us all... Personally, I think a few of us would like to have a little meet and greet up close and personal with these punks before the cops get them. I think they'd soon be happy to go with the men in blue! Stay tuned here.. Cindy may have an update.

On Fri Sep 5 12:45:51 2008 Cantankerous guy on Cottonwood said this about City Council Meeting 1301 Whitlock rezoning:
Worried.. I couldn't be at this meeting, I have been to other rezoning meetings (loose interpretation) of the city, including the original 1305 Whitlock one. The "meetings" always seemed to me they were going to do what they wanted to do no-matter what input was presented. Betya they didn't read my letter of opposition at the meeting. I think these "representatives" of the citizens need to be reminded they are there at OUR will, and can be replaced when our opinions are not honored of what we think might be best for OUR neighborhood. Thanks for your report and the URL link below, I understand Pat Malone might need a little reminder of that we can vote her out next round.
On Wed Sep 3 15:29:07 2008 Worried Warrior said this about the City Council Meeting of 1301 Whitlock rezoning:
The proposed rezoning of 1305 & 1301 Whitlock was deliberated at last night's City Council Meeting and we were pleased to see a handful of Warriors actively participating in the public forum. However, even though all Warriors present and a few Warrior's written opposition included in the public hearing records were unanimous in opposing the rezoning, Council passed the rezoning in a vote of 4 to 2. Interestingly, our Council representative Pat Malone voted against our request and instead voted in favor of the rezoning. So, in-the-not-too-distant-future we will have a business located on the Southwest corner of Whitlock and Cottonwood with a driveway entering and exiting on to Cottonwood as well as a parking lot at the rear of the property on Cottonwood. The home next door at 1305 Whitlock is set to be demolished and a right-turn only lane will be in it's place from the Northbound traffic traveling from Old Denton on to Whitlock. Yes, this will help eliviate traffic congestion at this intersection but at what cost to our neighborhood and what about all of those beautiful old trees? It is still up in the air whether the City will be able to acquire rights to the Cottonwood alley/easement which they have designs to enter and exit also on to Cottonwood instead of as it sets now on Whitlock. Although the vote is final your comments can still be voiced on this issue to Council Person Malone and to Mayor Branson, if you so choose. It might also be worth paying close attention to how this all gets developed, the city might vary from it's proposed design and it is in all of our interests (i.e. property values, and neighborhood safety) to ensure our rights are protected. There was confusion between some residents on what exactly was being proposed on the rezoning and how they should voice their concerns. At least a lesson learned from this is always read the pdf document pertaining to a proposed rezoning and do not take anything verbal as "official" and at least log in a written opposition to the City Staff responsible for the specific zoning case before the required deadline, and remember we are stronger and our voices are louder when we come together as a group of united warriors! Contact the mayor and council through this Carrollton city government link.. slide down to see their pictures, to direct your responses

Unfortunately, there are lots of web form spammers around looking for vulnerable sites to slam their wares to. We have added this password field to slow that nonsense down. You now have to use your submit password to have new log messages entered. Sorry for the minor inconvienience.
On Tue Aug 26 21:03:44 2008 Witty Joe said this about protesting 1301 Whitlock rezoning:
I sent my protest in on time. I'm hoping to show up in person on September 2. First question might be, "Isn't the city responsible for keeping the sign up during this entire time, it is being proposed"? i.e. what good is the sign laying on the ground for weeks on end?

Caring, I hope they do get their responses out too, and/or show up to the meeting September 2. There are a lot of fine print issues in that document that I think all the area residence should checkout. As a good neighbor, please make sure your neighbor knows what the city has in plans for our neighborhood!

I recently heard a neighbor commenting how unsightly it is when neighbors leave their trash and recyle bins out for several days after trash day pick up. If you have a question about when recycle day is see the link below. Be neighborly and pull your cans in the evening of trash day.
